The system of processes and structures which consists of interactions between the nervous system and the immune system is termed as the neuroimmune system. It involves electrophysiological and biochemical processes, and is integral in protecting the neurons from pathogens. Sensory neurons and immune cells are used by the neuroimmune system for the detection and management of harmful stimuli. The neuroimmune system is primarily comprised of glial cells. Neurons and glial cells work together to deal with attacking pathogens. Both glial cells and neurons express chemokine receptors, thus chemokines act as mediators in neuron-glial cell interaction. Different approaches, evaluations, methodologies and advanced studies on neuroimmune interactions and their clinical aspects have been included in this book. It presents this complex subject in the most comprehensible and easy to understand language. This book will serve as a valuable source of reference for graduate and post graduate students.
