Urban agglomerations, simply known as urban areas, are human settlements with a high population density and infrastructure of built environment. They are created through urbanization and are categorized as cities, towns, conurbations or suburbs. Urban areas are contrasted with villages, hamlets and the natural environment. They are the result of urban revolution which led to the creation of human civilization with modern urban planning. Urban agglomerations generate favorable environments for human capital development.
